I’m Italian, Ghanaian and Lithuanian and I’ve lived in London my whole life. I have 3 siblings, and I am the darkest skinned of all of us. As a child, if my sister was crying and I held out my arms to her, strangers would tell me to ‘leave that white child alone’ and as an adult I’ve had people question me about ‘how’ black I am, so I never really gravitated toward my white side because I was never fully embraced by them or their community. I’ve always identified more with being black for this reason, but as an adult I’ve found that race is part of who you are, its not everything. I think people should just accept each other as they are.
